Bats

here's something you may not know - bats are considered lucky animals. yeah.. those animals that fly around at night. in mandarin, they are called "bian3 fu2" and the word "fu2" sounds like prosperity in mandarin.

we found some o f them hanging from our house on sunday. not 1, not 2 but 5. just the right number. know why?

because it means "五富临门" !!(directly translated as "5 prosperity come"). This year's going to be a 'huat huat' year ah!

doggy tag

i have 2 dogs - yuki and snowy. Both of them used to have tags to identify them in case they get lost. Somehow, snowy lost hers and i refused to do a new one for her because its too expensive - $20 for one miserable small tag.

anyway, one day, yuki got lost while Suparni was walking them and we spend an hour looking for yuki in vain :( then i received a call from a person who found Yuki! :D whew! it was lucky that yuki's the one that got lost - at least there was a tag to identify her.
since then, realised the importance of that miserable tag - rather spend $20 on it than to spend time mourning over the loss of any of them if it ever happens again. at least i have hedged the risk already
here's that $20 miserable tag

and here's my pretty doggies

vonderful voodies

found these in my brother's room - pretty xmas vooden voodies. found them a little too late. i shd have found these a month earlier instead of now. dont think i can use it for chinese new year.

broken

Ms Chair used to service Ms D
in all her heaviness and smelly-ness.
One day, it just gave way
And now lay helplessly broken in a corner

Its seems hopelessly broken and unusable
Seems like Ms Chair's days of service are over
Thanks for your 3 yrs for service Ms Chair!

chinese new year greetings card

in the past, we used to send one another chinese new year cards. now, we just send sms. i kinda miss those old days of receiving cards via snail mail. somehow, pple just forgot about it - an email, a sms just seems so much more convenient.

i was digging through some old stuffs and came across this card from kay which she sent in 1997. her handwriting hasnt changed and i could still remember which pen she used for this. anyway, she penned a poem and i shall directly translate it. Here goes:

if you are a chinese, celebrating chinese new year, speak mandarin, eat white rice, then how can you not send a chinese new year card? are you a banana? ("banana = ang moh ")
it doesnt make much sense eh? this year, i shall continue to not send chinese cards :D

rubber stamp

been thinking of getting a rubber stamp for a long time already but had great inertia to do it - design, bring it to stamp maker to make, collect from stamp maker.. sounds like too much work. lucky, there's haw to the rescue! comissioned her to do it for me - ta da! here's it!

kok hong

he must be the good-est, old-est friend that i keep in touch! know him since primary 1 - we used to be in "anti-litter squad" in primary school. of course, there's kaka that i know and still keep in touch... gotta dig out her primary school photo and post it one day.

Anyway, reason for mentioning him's cause i found this picture of him taken at Sentosa - he still looks the same now - same haircut, same size... :D

fabrics surprise

this time, these were given by kay. she sent it by snail mail in a pretty package with apple trimings! yay! love the mails.. keep them coming ok, kay? thanks!

what's in a matchbox?

what's in the matchboxes? let's take a peek in one of them...

Ta daaaa!

$1 thread

these were going for $1 PER BOX of 12 spools of thread only. For those pple who dun craft - normally one spool goes for $0.60. yeah.. the shopkeeper said cuz its different manufacturer, different brand... but ..heck.. i cant tell the diff. :D

Angels

Angels in swarovski crystals! Had so much fun doing these and i am going to do more tonight in many different colors! Anyone wants to buy ? :D

Tutorial - Mobile Phone Strap

My first tutorial. Always like looking at pictorial tutorials and wanted to do one for fun. So here's it- a tutorial on a very simple and fast project:

Materials you need is a flat clasp, a piece of fabric and a hp strap.
Fold the fabric into half and draw a line (the width between the line and the folded edge should be 1.3cm)
Pin the fabric together and sew along the line

Turn the fabric inside out. You can use a safety pin to do it.
Fold the strip into half and sew the edge together

Clamp the clasp over the raw edge and its completed!

Hope its clear enuff!

Disney Matchbox

I did this for the Disney matchbox swap. My partner likes winnie the pooh so i stuffed in a winner the pooh key chain. Also stuffed a tigger mobile phone accessory - it will light up when the phone rings. hope she likes it.

Valentines matchbox swap

got this from mo0fin for the above matchbox swap. there was a sweet smelling scent in the box, which i suspect came from the ice-cream. and the ribbons with the red rubber band look achingly familar - seems like i have sent that out for the Bears Matchbox swap before... hmm....

Toast & Toilet

bought these on etsy.com from another power seller. i could actually do these myself - i have ready materials but just wanted to get a sense of how sellers price their products... now, i wonder... how do i become a power seller. still finding out ways to draw customers to my etsy shop. for me, selling on esty is more about the fun factor and knowing that my crafts are liked by pple (hmm... i think i may have written this in one of the blog entries before). Anyway, see picture below for the items i bought for US$20 (including postage). no more buying of craft items on etsy for me.
ms lak just intro me to the world of vintage stuffs on etsy - there are some bags and dresses that i am eyeing :D will buy themm as soon as my paypal account fills up with money again. can more ppl buy from my etsy shop? :D :D

what happens when hello kitty meets doraemon?

A really cold joke which a friend told last weekend but it tickles me to tell it. dont say i didnt warn you in advance.

Hello Kitty met Doraemon one day and Doraemon starting talking to Hello Kitty - yak yak yakity yak yak.. Doraemon talked for a long time but Hello Kitty did not answer back. She just kept quiet. Do you know why?
.
.
.
.
because Hello Kitty has no mouth! :D

Hello Kity knew that she's being rude, so she went for a major operations to add a mouth so that she could talk to Doraemon. After the operations, she met up with Doraemon again and she started talking to Doraemon this time - yak yak yakity yak yak. This time, Hello Kity talked for a long time but Doraemon did not answer back. Do you know why?
.
.
.
.
because Doraemon has no ears! :D hahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahah

yeah.. i warned you it was a cold joke already :P

patchwork pillows

Ms lak was asking if i have any new craft projects... told her i have great inertia to do new projects mainly because i sux at matching fabrics.. the tot of matching fabrics for a project deters me from crafting. realli need to 'cultivate' how to match fabrics nicely together.

Anyway, did these over the weekend - the brown and blue ones. I did the pink one some time back already. Its so satisfying. Would have done more if i had more pillows and TIME! I need more time!! :D

more fabrics

this time, its 'non-kawaii' japanese inspired fabrics. pretty eh... if you would like me to custom make the clutch purse, draw string pouch, coin purse using any of these fabrics at a small price, let me know :D

guess what fruit is this?

its starfruit! saw this at a tiong bahru coffeeshop.

kawaii parcel

Got this from a fellow singaporean who participated in swap-bot too. she has sent lots of cutesy papers and made a pretty pouch too.

Black white brown matchbox swap

got this from my swap partner - it feels very jungle-like.

brother's birthday!

its my younger bro's birthday on sunday! he's now 19.. and i tot he's only 18. anyway, got him a cake and here's it.. yummy yummy fresh cream blackforest cake!*drool drool* had to go easy on the cream cuz i am trying to conntrol my diet (note the half-hearted effort - TRY).

18 January 2008

blessed by lak!

this HUGE surprise mail came in last night! i was wondering who sent it from Singapore and it was such a large package...then i saw strathmore place.. and i wondered if that someone's from swap-bot.

Turned out, its ms lak! she's sent me a huge parcel of cuties - full of things that makes me happy! love everything inside - she got it all correct and it made me really happy! its so cute that it aches to see it and i cant bear to use it.

its a happy week! first ms vong's pressies, then ms lak's! yay!!! always like receiving pressies from snail mail - its a refreshing change from receiving bills bills bills and more bills :D

**VERMONSTER**

Went to Ben & Jerry's at Dempsey for dessert last night with a couple of friends. As we were thinking of what to have, the word "VERMONSTER" caught our eye. Not for the word itself but for the price - its $88 - its made up of the works - 20 scoops of icecream, bananas, brownies, cookies, chocolate, cream etc etc.. i lost track... we ordered and had such a fun time eating it. the guys enjoyed it so much that they even slurrpped up the melted ice-cream - which i tot was darn disgusting *puke*

The vermonster cup is big enuff to cover tea's head!! :D

Tote bag filled with goodies swap

Got this from Saranya of Thailand for the above swap. It was suppose to get to me by 3Jan, but as its registered post and no one's at home to sign for it, I had to go over to the post office to pick it up personally and that took some time . Finally got it! and its was a fantastic package. She has been so generous and i had fun time opening up and seeing all the stuffs she sent. Have used the rubber Hello Kitty key cap already! As we had been flaked by the same person in different swaps, she had been very thoughtful - she included a russian doll badge to make it up! Thanks Saranya!

$100

that's how it looks like in S$1 gold coins - only a small handful of it.. :( how many more coins do i need before my piggy bank's full? sigh...

15 January 2008

Valentines matchbox swap

I did this for my partner for the above swap. Its pretty in pink with hearts and flowers! Hope she likes it!

14 January 2008

mobile phone straps

been thinking of doing this for a long time already but somehow, never did until today. was going through and packing my collection of fabrics - saw some loose fabrics lying around, so tried doing these. and once i have started, i cant seem to stop.

I am using the pink rabbit one for my camera now. :D

New creation - Notice board!

have seen other craftsters transforming a plain cork board to a pretty one. been thinking of trying it for the longest time - but as usual, there's great inertia for me to start crafting something new. but finally found inspiration to do it today! :D pretty happy with the end results but felt that the board's too small - need to do a bigger one next time. also , instead of using boring push pins, i made some rabbits push pins to spruce up the board! i shall try to do some for my supportive frens in due course............ :P
i will try to sew some pillowcases next- inspiration came from jellybelly!

Clutch purses - custom made orders

had received a number of enquiries regarding the clutch purses which i posted on etsy - whether they are avaliable in different fabrics.
made these 2 at their special requests. i really like the design of this clutch purse and find it useful as a 'hold-it-all' purse. considering the amount of work, effort and hours i put into doing one, its really value for money! :D hope that they like it and find it as useful!
